i've read that four cities claim to be the birthplace of hockey: windsor, nova scotia, halifax, nova scotia, kingston, ontario, and montreal, quebec. i think most experts give it to halifax. also, interestingly, i read that russian hockey began and evolved completely separately from the north american game.
